Daily Devotionals from the previous sermon.
Day 1:
The Foundation of Character
Devotional
Have you ever watched a master potter at work? With skilled hands, they take shapeless clay and carefully mold it into something beautiful. Similarly, our character isn't something we're born with - it's shaped over time through countless decisions. Each choice we make either moves us closer to or further from the person God designed us to be. Just as a potter has a vision for their creation, God has a perfect plan for who we can become. The beautiful truth is that He didn't just speak us into existence like the rest of creation - He took special care in forming us, breathing His very life into us.
Bible Verse
"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." - Genesis 1:27
Reflection Question
What recent decisions have you made that are shaping your character, and how do they reflect God's image in you?
Quote "He didn't do that with kangaroos. He didn't do that with different animals. He didn't do that. He just spoke all of those things into existence. But with us, He shaped us just the way he wanted us and then breathed his own life into us."
Prayer
Father, thank you for creating me with purpose and care. Help me to make decisions that honor the special way You've made me. Guide me as I develop character that reflects Your image. Amen.
Day 2:
The Power of Humility
Devotional
In a world that celebrates self-promotion and personal achievement, true humility can seem counterintuitive. Yet, Jesus - the King of Kings - demonstrated that real greatness comes through serving others. When He washed His disciples' feet, He wasn't diminishing His authority; He was showing us what genuine leadership looks like. True humility isn't thinking less of yourself; it's thinking of yourself less. When we embrace this mindset, we follow in Jesus's footsteps and allow God to be the one who lifts us up.
Bible Verse
"Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet." - John 13:3-5
Reflection Question
In what areas of your life might God be calling you to demonstrate humility through service to others?
Quote "Jesus did not exalt himself. His Father exalted him."
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for modeling true humility. Help me to serve others joyfully, trusting You to lift me up in Your perfect timing. Amen.
Day 3:
Actions Speak Louder
Devotional
Our actions tell a story about what we truly value and believe. Like a mirror reflecting our inner self, our behavior reveals our true character. We might say we trust God, but do our choices show it? We might claim to love others, but do our actions prove it? Today's challenge is to align our actions with our proclaimed beliefs. When we do this consistently, our character grows stronger and more Christ-like. Remember, it's not about perfection, but direction - are our actions moving us closer to or further from God's best for us?
Bible Verse
"Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." - First John 3:18
Reflection Question
If someone were to observe your actions this past week, what would they conclude about your priorities and values?
Quote "What do my actions say about me? What do your actions say about you? What are your priorities? What is it that you worship?"
Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me to live authentically, with my actions matching my beliefs. Guide me to choices that demonstrate Your love and truth. Amen.
Day 4:
Known and Loved
Devotional
In a world of social media filters and carefully curated images, isn't it refreshing to know that God sees us completely and loves us anyway? He knows every decision we've made - good and bad - and still chooses to love us. This isn't because He overlooks our failures, but because His love for us is based on who He is, not on what we've done. He created us for relationship with Him, and nothing can separate us from His love. When we truly grasp this truth, it transforms how we see ourselves and how we make decisions.
Bible Verse
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
Reflection Question
How might your daily decisions change if you truly believed that God knows everything about you and loves you completely?
Quote "He created you not because he had to and not because he wanted to show off. Because he desired a relationship with you."
Prayer
Father, thank you for loving me completely. Help me to rest in Your love and let it guide my choices and shape my character. Amen.
Day 5:
Becoming Who We're Meant to Be
Devotional
Character development is a journey, not a destination. Each day presents new opportunities to choose who we're becoming. Will we follow our own path or submit to God's leading? Will we trust our own strength or lean on His? The beautiful truth is that God has given us everything we need to develop godly character. When we allow His principles to guide us and His strength to sustain us, we become more like Jesus. This is the ultimate goal - not to make ourselves great, but to reflect His greatness.
Bible Verse
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:14-16
Reflection Question
What specific area of your character is God currently developing, and how can you cooperate with His work in your life?
Quote "Allow his strength to be your strength. Allow his decision making, allow his principles, allow his character to be your character."
Prayer
Lord, thank you for continually shaping my character. Help me to yield to Your work in my life and become more like Jesus each day. Amen.

How to Study the Bible
Loving and Learning How to Study the Word of God
2 Timothy 2:15 15 Be diligent to (A)present yourself approved to God as a worker who [a]does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling (B)the word of truth.
1 Corinthians 2:14-16 14 But a natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But the one who is spiritual discerns all things, yet he himself is [k]discerned by no one. 16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? (Isa 40:13) But we have the mind of Christ
