· In order for us to understand this line of thinking we have to understand the relationship between Mary, Martha, Lazarus and Jesus.
o In John 11:5 it says that Jesus loved Martha, and her sister and Lazarus.
§ This is very clear language singling them out as a family that Jesus deeply loved.
§ Others recognized it as well when we read in verse 36 people remarked, “See how He loved him!” in response to Jesus weeping at the heartbreak of the sisters and the death of Lazarus.
