Sunday Morning Modern Service

1.   Why is knowing scripture so important?

·       Remember that last week we said that “relationship with God is the most vital of spiritual disciplines”.

o   In any relationship…its depth depends on its mutual alignment of values, priorities, and affections.

o   When those things are lined up it allows us to move and grow in the same direction.

o   Where there is alignment…there is peace and unity.

o   When we live in alignment with God, then we know that we are living within His will, because His desires have become our desires.

·       The reason that knowing scripture is so important is that as Christians we have submitted our lives to God through our faith in Jesus Christ.

o   Meaning, we have committed to a life that glorifies Him, not us.

o   We know who we are.

§  We know every thought we’ve ever had.

§  We know every word that we have spoken.

§  We know how we really feel about every situation.

§  We know the opinions about people that we have formed.

§  We know our hearts better than anyone…except God Himself.

·       But the objective is to know God so well, and with such intimacy, that His values, priorities, and affections, become who are and we are made new in Him.

o   The reason knowing scripture is so important is because it deepens the relationship that we have with God.

o   It fills in the blanks, gives us answers to questions, and points us to God as the source of the life that we so desperately desire to live.

o   A life filled with hope for eternity and not the fear of death.
