Have you ever held onto something that you knew was slowly hurting you?
Maybe it was a habit, a relationship, a secret pattern of thinking or behaving.
It wasn’t destroying your life all at once… just slowly dulling your soul.
We tend to cling to things that feel familiar, even if they’re harmful.
We minimize, justify, excuse.
We tell ourselves, “It’s not that bad,” or “I can handle it.”
But deep down… we know better.
Jesus knows this too.
And in Mark 9, He speaks with unusual intensity—because He loves us too much to let us drift.
His words are not soft… but they are full of love.
He doesn’t speak this way to crush us, but to wake us up.
He says:
“If your hand causes you to sin—cut it off.”
“If your foot leads you astray—cut it off.”
“If your eye draws you away—tear it out.”
Because whatever is drawing you into sin is not worth losing your soul.
